NOTICE TO THE PUBLIC
The public is hereby noticed that the Walton County Board of County Commissioners voted during the March 28, 2023, regular meeting to apply for a grant offered through the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity titled “Rebuild Florida Infrastructure Repair Program”. This program is funded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development Block Grant. The requested amount is $1,371,539. The source of funding requested is provided under the State of Florida identified Most Impacted and Distressed Areas (MID) category of this grant allocation, of which $11,390,000 has been identified as available for Bay, Okaloosa, and Walton Counties.
This grant application is part of an ongoing program initiated by the Board of County Commissioners aimed at addressing water quality within the Choctawhatchee Bay and at reducing flooding in nearby floodplain areas by installing infrastructure in these areas.
The requested funding would be used to complete capital improvements projects for 13th Street within the Old Town of Santa Rosa area, specifically the roadway and drainage improvements and the installation of central water and sewer to facilitate the abatement of septic tanks in a flood prone area, provide for enhanced water quality and reduce flooding in a flood-prone area. These capital improvements implement and build upon the recently completed Old Town of Santa Rosa Stormwater Master Plan, undertaken, and completed by the Walton County Public Works Department.
