Stan Sunday was appointed as Deputy County Administrator for Operations in September 2013. Prior to his appointment, Sunday served as the Director of the Walton County Department of Corrections.
Sunday has 25 years of experience as a law enforcement and corrections officer. Sunday began his career with the Walton County Sheriff’s Office in February 1989 as a Corrections Officer. After obtaining dual certifications in corrections and law enforcement in 1990, he transferred into law enforcement and ascended the ranks holding various positions within the agency including Patrol Commander, Administrative Commander and Chief of Investigations. After 18 years, Sunday left the Sheriff’s Office in March 2007 to become a member of, and lead the newly-created agency, the Walton County Department of Corrections.
Sunday has an Associate of Arts degree from Okaloosa-Walton Community College, a Bachelor’s degree in Criminology from Florida State University and a Master’s degree in Public Administration from the University of West Florida. Sunday is a graduate of the FBI National Academy 217th session, the FBI Florida Executive Development Seminar, the Florida Criminal Justice Executive Institute’s Chief Executive Seminar (CES) Class 36 and the Florida Sheriffs Association’s Basic Institute for Newly-Elected Sheriffs.
